I once asked a coworker if they were participating in our company 401k, and they informed me that they were not. I told them they matched dollar for dollar the first 6% and they are just giving money away especially if they hate the employer that much. By enrolling in it you will be sticking it to the man. Then they told me that they heard that if they quit that they would lose the company match so what was the point. I told them that plan changed about 10 years ago and that anyone who was hired after that date was not on any vesting period and anyone who was on one should have past the vesting period, so everyone keeps the match now. Then they proceeded to tell me that the market was in a downturn, and they would wait until it went back up.
Practices Frequently Change – Make Sure You Are On the Current Policy
That day I realized that I was not a salesman, and my coworker was set in his mind that the vesting period still existed and was not going to budge. Please make sure you are up to date on the latest in your company’s retirement plans. They can change year to year and your coworker’s advice from 5 years ago may not be practical today and take what people say to you as rumor or gossip until you can verify it with company policy. This can have a big impact on your future both positive and negatively.
