For the most part, I do not follow auto-debit unless it is mandatory, like most cell phone providers. I prefer to pay my bills so I make sure to look at them and see how much I am paying. This helps if the price suddenly changes, and I am not expecting it to change.
Almost a Near Miss
I have struggled with remembering to pay the bills. Thankfully I have not been late recently, but have had to do some payments via the creditor instead of from my bill pay account or something like that. I created events in my calendar for about five days before each bill is due to help me remember to pay them. I also created a spreadsheet where I log that I made or scheduled the payment for each bill.
Scheduling in Groups
This month, I noticed that last month I made all payments to our bills on three dates. On the 3rdth I paid the car payment, the grocery bill and the no-interest credit card bill. On the 9th I paid our internet, water, mortgage and our monthly expenses credit card. On the 22nd I paid our electricity and our credit card for additional groceries and gasoline. This is a new routine for me, but I think I like it better. I am still going to keep my log and keep my calendar appointments to make sure I am not late and pay everything on time. This is what works for me, find something that works for you.
